movie-talkers

Just got back from “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”.  It was pretty good!  I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first 4, but I think that’s mostly because I was cranky due to the high-schooler sitting next to me chose to have loud, in-depth conversations with her friend during the entire film, discussing the differences between the book and the movie.

I’m always impressed with how the images in these films portray precisely what I had imagined in my head when reading the books.  It must be a combination of J.K. Rowling’s descriptive skills in the books and her level of involvement with the films.

Although, I have always found the new Dumbledore irritating…Dumbledore should be elegant, wise, in control, and tall, just as Richard Harris played him.  The new Dumbledore is so theatrical and sort of jumpy.

While I won’t be dressing up in a wizard costume and hunting down Barnes and Noble employees, I am looking forward to the 7th (and final?) book…will Harry Potter die, as Rowling has hinted?  Will Voldemort die and Harry go happily home?  I doubt that it will be that simple…

Next up:  Bourne Ultimatum!!!

thoughts from jessie-immo…

A family in our church is moving out of state in just under a week.  I’m so sad, and also reflective.  My friendship with them began at the same time as I began attending Quest two and a half years ago.  I’ve known their youngest since she was 6 months old, and now she’s all over the place!  It’s so hard to see them leave!

I’ve also been nannying their kids, and  other Quest kids for two years.  It’s so amazing to watch children develop and grow into their personalities.  I’ve grown too…when I first started nannying, I was unsure of how exactly to go about the process of diapers, bedtime, and other little challenges.  It’s so easy now!

Here are some valuable lessons I’ve learned as a babysitter:

1)  I have learned the importance of “The Quiet Game”.  As a child, I was extremely skeptical of this game, but as a grown-up it’s one of my favorites!!

2)  When trying to convince a child to stop watching tv, or to come and brush their teeth, counting down has proven to be VERY effective…like this:  “Time to turn off the tv! ” (Jessie-Immo is totally ignored…)  “Ok, 6, 5, 4, 3….”  and every time the child will come tumbling over with utmost urgency.  Who knows what this mysterious evil is that will occur at “0″??  They don’t care and I don’t even know.

3)  The funnest game EVER, second only to the quiet game, is to have a dance party and copy every dance move that a certain Jedi Knight makes…

I was watching the episode of friends where Freddie Prince Jr. is the male nanny and since that is one of the funniest friends episodes ever I’m posting one of my favorite scenes…for those who haven’t seen this episode Ross and Rachel are interviewing a male nanny who is a little more sensitive than Ross is comfortable with…

worry

Lately I’ve been working through a sin of mine…worry!  I’m such a worrier!  On top of that, I love to know exactly what my life is going to look like right now, tomorrow, and forever and ever!  But it just doesn’t work that way, especially at this point in my personal timeline…I feel like I’m at a crossroads, especially concerning a career.  But I have a feeling that however uncomfortable I may feel with all of the “maybe’s” floating around me, that’s where I’m supposed to be, where God would like me, until I learn to trust and take a chill pill.
